Well this wasn’t supposed to happen. Weeks ahead of the official embargo ending reviews of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are appearing all over the web. Samsung shouldn’t be too worried though, reviewers are blown away… despite two major problems.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Reviews
UK tech site Recombu was first to break cover with a review of the Galaxy S6. It set the tone praising the stunning display, super fast performance, Apple Touch ID-matching fingerprint sensor and what it believes to be a new class leading camera.
Predictably the downsides were Samsung’s decision to ditch the removable battery, expandable storage and water resistance. It also comes in for criticism for a smudge-loving gloss finish.
Android Authority was similarly enthusiastic about the Galaxy S6 stating that it has brought back the buzz lost with the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5. The main positives were again the display, performance and Touch ID. Android Authority also loves the build quality – a big change from past Galaxy S devices.
Criticisms remain with the look of TouchWiz, but the site praises the company’s decision to strip back the bloatware and labels it a “big step in the right direction”. The dilemma: has Samsung created a new flagship which alienates hardcore Samsung fans because of the omission of water resistance, a removable battery and expandable storage?
Either way the pros still easily outweigh the cons and Android Authority gives it an Editors’ Choice award.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Reviews
BeginnersTech may be reviewing the Edge variant, but its thoughts follow in the footsteps of Recombu and Android Authority. Performance, build quality and stripped back TouchWiz are all applauded, but it finds the Galaxy S6 Edge curved display to be the real show stopper and works particularly well with the new slide-in menus in Android 5.0 Lollipop’s Material Design makeover.
The Edge looks really good!
